Big Bro Speaks on Hip Hop (Dirty South edition) pt .1

On my trip to "Da Ville" aka Music City, I got a chance holla at my older brother(yes same Mom type of brother) "D". He's a Educator-Photographer in da M-I-S-S and my 1st OFFICIAL tour guide to the culture of Hip Hop as a snotty-nose. He dropped some knowledge on me of how Hip Hop(local crews-clothes-shows) influenced the scene in the Nashville growing up and later on, influenced my friends and me. Dirty South has definitely progressed(thank gawd) since then in regards to the culture but its still not where we think it should be but hey..we def got more than mountains, sweet tea, and country music...fa sho! -K;EZ

AH YEAH!, Banned BET Black History PSA

BANNED FROM BET. AH YEAH KRS 1 PSA. from KANE U$A on Vimeo.

Crazy right??...sounds like an oxymoron or something that doesn't quite register properly. This commercial done by my homie KANEU$A was discarded by none other than, BET!? So sad but true. You would think they would have more openness for this type of creative avenue for AFRICAN-AMER history. And, just the displaying of some dope lyrics by my man KRS-ONE, but I guess I need to reevaluate. Anyways, enjoy this video and pray BET gets back on their square, smh

Stetsasonic- A.F.R.I.C.A.

On the real this helped me to remember some of the countries in A.f.r.i.c.a. as a a lil one. This could easily be used to teach kids and adults then and now on the various countries that exist there. A classic group Stetsasonic putting it down on the strength! Even though the visual efx are a bit dated the message is def still relevant...dueces

X-CLAN Funkin Lesson ...Vanglorious!!

This is the Almighty X-Clan. These brothas ans sistas came through with the force of Black Nationalism,Kemetic lessons(egyptology), and metaphysics wrapped in the Parliment Funkadelic groove mashed with Hip Hop thump, ya heard! Some of it was much too hard to swallow for some of the even die-hard Hip Hop fans but for the ones who got the real stories/lessons of African culture throughout the world they were speaking about, it was a definite wake-up call. Or, could it have been the pink caddy??...VANGLORIOUS..Hotep!

Thinking of a Master Plan!

Another gem for A.A.H.M. from the early 90's, actually the year of 1990. MC YZ shot his video around Nelson Mandela's speaking tour in NYC after his prison release. So, that just tells you where more than a few MC/rappers' heads where during this time period..It was really about changing our system and acknowledging those that, as MCs did, spoke up for what they believed was injustice and unfair acts of discrimination. So much I could say but just LISTEN to the lyrics. My cousin actually hipped me to this in my pre-teens. Big shouts CUZ ..for putting me on!

Spread Love its the Hip Hop Way!

I don't subscribe to one day encompassing all what "love" has to offer. Yet, these songs are a some of what Hip Hop has to offer on the table as far as relationships between a man and his lady..take heed to the song's lyrics. You may get some real insight if you listen carefully..just like in any successful relationship. Although you must 1st have love for oneself, so you can spread love. Have love for today and EVERYDAY you are blessed to be with those who "got cha back"..front, and sides too! WORD. UNO AMOR

A.A.H.M.- Fight the Power(s)!

No matter how many times I watch this video, it still gets me amped. Public Enemy at one of its finest moments. It helped promote the culture to show that we were aware of our environment and historical place in America. We should, could, and would get more despite the barriers that lay behind and in front of us. Spike Lee directed this video in which the song was used in his great film, Do the Right Thing. The lyrics and images of the song refers to what a lot of forward thinking brothas and sistas had on their minds in the late 1980's. Don't sleep...this call for resistance and activism is still very relevant...the question in this moment is, who are we fighting and in what way?? ....libertad

I see HIP HOP!...State Farm

I was thumbing through my current Jet Magazine with Trey Songz on the cover, when I saw an ad from State Farm Insurance Company. The page is what you see above. Make no mistake they're using "wild style-ish" grafix to capture the attention of the young "urban" market. Crafty marketing on their end art yet I'm still wondering if its genuine....what do you think peeps?

Ladies First!

LADIES FIRST.....
Aside from it being A.A.H.M., I think this video deserves some major credit for the imagery and skills of the then pre-mega celebrity, accomplished writer-actor-singer, Ms. Queen Latifah. Also, with the ill skill debut of the UK bred MC Ms. Monie Love, these sistas represented what it was to be a lady in the noble sense and represent to the fullest. I never would've thought Queen would go to these heights of being worldly recognized, but if you really acknowledge the video, is it any surprise really? Enjoy!

You Must learn!!

Def an oldie but goodie for A.A.H.M. This used to get me amped back in the days! They def wasn't teaching these jewels in the Nashville public schools or most schools anywhere for that matter. This brought up some much need convo at the house and amongst my friends dealing with Ourstory. Even if you don't agree with everything he states you can't deny the force and intellect he's spittin..more to come...word!
